Guy and Jan Sellick-Taylor
were founder members of the Rushden & District History Society and
both served on the committee. Jan was an inspired programme organiser
for several years until, sadly, her increasing ill health led to the scaling
down of the social activities. Guy was a genial and hard working Chairman
from 2001 until 2003. He was always fiercely loyal to the society and
to the other members of the committee. He was deeply involved in the "Ditchford
Project" with the Irchester and Irthlingborough History Societies
and helped to prepare the book "Ditchford Days". Health problems
and the pressure of schoolwork led to a curtailing of this active involvement
with the society. However he retained his interest in local history and
continued to serve on the committee of the Northamptonshire Association
for Local History.
Guy and Jan's three children wished that money donated to their parents'
funerals should be given to the society, and in consultation with them
it was decided to hold an Memorial Evening, with a special speaker and
a supper.
The society is delighted to have the opportunity to honour the memory of its good friends. We hope this will be a lively event, which Guy and Jan would themselves have enjoyed.

Rushden & District History Society’s group “Rushden Research” began their project to build a Heritage Website for the town, funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, in April 2007. It began by focusing on the non-conformist churches and the shoe industry, which flourished together in the late 1800s, but also covering the town’s wider history. There is also a broad historical content as well as family stories, business and social topics, and an extensive set on on-line resources for those researching family history.
We meet on Monday afternoons (except for Bank Holidays) from 1-4pm at Rushden Museum, Hall Park. If you want to be involved please come along to one of the sessions to see how you could help, or learn how to build a website page.
In particular we’d like to copy photographs and documents, so if you have any to share with us, please bring them to one of the meetings and we will copy them on the day, or send via email. Your memories, knowledge and pictures about the history of Rushden and its inhabitants are invaluable.
For further information please contact us through our website at www.rushdenheritage.co.uk where you can also track our progress.
